Hard Water Stains
hardwater_stain.jpgWhat you don’t know about your sprinklers that may be damaging your home.

As everyone is getting ready for spring cleaning and summer parties, they are touching up their landscaping and gardening. With this revamping comes outside home maintenance such as pool cleaning, pressure washing, and window cleaning.

As In Style Home Services was providing some of these services to a home in Colleyville recently, we were asked a common question about the white spots on the bottom of their windows. These spots were more prevalent in the back of the home next to the pool, and were abundant next to most of the landscaped areas.

Unfortunately, this question came too late for the homeowner as corrosion had already set-in to the windows. Those little white spots cause a not so little problem known as calcium deposits or hard water damage. Just a slight breeze blows a mist from sprinklers or your pool straight on to your windows, causing the calcium to seep into the pores of the glass. As time goes by, this calcium actually eats into the sealant on a window and if left untreated will eat deep into the glass and it will need replacement.

Most people end up having window cleaners come out and remove their hard water stains quarterly with a special pH treatment. To avoid this damage altogether, a sealant is needed on your windows. This sealant bonds molecularly with the silica on the surface of the glass, thereby filling the pores. The pores are now so small that the minerals in the water cannot penetrate them. Water beads off and the windows stay cleaner between services. This sealant can last up to five years.

So be sure to not make a costly mistake and ignore those little white spots on your windows!

We can remove hard water stains from your windows as well!  Usually caused by mineral deposits in the water from your sprinkler system, these ugly white spots won't come off with the usual soap and water. We use a special solution and brush to properly clean each window pane damaged by the hard water to restore your windows to their original form!
